Astronomy for Kids: From Asteroids to Artemis

Looking for a quick summer getaway for your little astronaut? Take a trip into the world of space science, with family-friendly planetarium shows once a week. Each includes a brief look at that evening’s sky, time for questions, and suggestions for further activities.

Wednesday, July 8 — Magic Tree House
Travel with Jack and Annie, stars of the Magic Tree House® best-selling children’s book series, as they search for answers to a mysterious riddle they discover in a written note signed “–M.” Viewers peek into the treehouse and follow Jack and Annie on an exciting adventure as they meet a helpful astronomer and an astronaut. As they travel to an observatory and beyond into space, Jack and Annie nearly get . . . well, we don’t want to give the surprise away! Wednesday, July 15 — Our Colorful World
A vibrant exploration of color, light, and perception, and what lies beyond the visible world, with a curious friend by your side. It features an animated short from the Towson University Jess & Mildred Fisher College of Science & Mathematics. Recommended for ages 4–10; 30-minute program.

Wednesday, July 22 — Asteroid: Mission Extreme
Discover how asteroids are both a danger and an opportunity for those of us on planet Earth. The danger is the chance of a cataclysmic collision; the opportunity is that asteroids could be stepping stones to other worlds. The challenges are enormous, such a mission could be the key to protecting life on Earth. Recommended for ages 4–10; 25-minute show plus Q&A.

Wednesday, July 29 — Artemis to the Moon and Back
No moon rocks were brought back this time, but it was just the first step! Suit up and experience a trip to the Moon, launching on the massive SLS rocket, marveling at views of the Earth not seen by humans for nearly 60 years, and splashing down in the ocean after a blazing re-entry. Recommended for ages 5–12; 25-minute show plus Q&A.
