Grants Available for Yonkers-Based Artists and Organizations

ArtsWeschester was recently joined by Westchester County Board of Legislators Majority Leader Christopher Johnson for a networking and information event for current and potential grantees of the Yonkers Arts Initiative grant program.

The attendees, representing numerous nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and individual artists from throughout Yonkers, gathered at the offices of YoFiFest to learn about the funding opportunities currently available. The Yonkers Arts Initiative is designed to help provide more expansive access to the arts for Yonkers residents. These funds, which are distributed by ArtsWestchester with support from the County Board of Legislators, are open to organizations for cultural activities that take place in Yonkers, and for individual artists for the creation of new Yonkers-based artworks / projects that engage the community.

At the event, ArtsWestchester CEO Janet Langsam spoke to the group about the organization’s mission and commitment to support and promote the arts, and make the arts accessible to all.

YoFi Fest Executive Director Dave Steck discussed the importance of arts funding and its impact on the Yonkers community.

Numerous attendees described the specific impact that arts funding has had on their work and how it has increased their ability to reach, and engage with, wider audiences.

Legislator Johnson expressed the County’s continued support of the arts, and commended all attendees on their commitment to bring arts opportunities to the City of Yonkers.

Applications for Yonkers Arts Initiative grants are open through April 3.
