MOUNT VERNON ARTS INITIATIVE GRANT

The Mount Vernon Arts Initiative is designed to help individual artists based in Westchester County and Mount Vernon-based nonprofit cultural organizations enhance the services they provide to Mount Vernon residents. These funds, which ArtsWestchester will distribute through a competitive process, are over and above the funding your organization received from us in the Basic Program Support, Project Support, Arts Alive, and the ReStart the Arts categories.

Organizations may apply for up to two open to the public arts/cultural activities that will take place in Mount Vernon. Organizations may request between $1,000 – $10,000.  If you are applying for more than one grant, total request cannot exceed $10,000.

Individual Artists may apply for one grant for the creation of a new Mount Vernon-based work of art or a community-engagement project that will take place in Mount Vernon. Artists may request between $1,000 – $2,500. Please note: Artists must live in Westchester County, or own/rent space in Westchester County at the time of the application and for the duration of the planned project.

PLEASE NOTE:Applicants are strongly recommended to  have a confirmed venue at the time of application.

ARTS FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

ArtsWestchester is pleased to continue its initiative to increase accessibility of the arts to people with special needs. This opportunity, Arts for People with Special Needs, is open to organizations that offer programs for individuals with special needs and human services agencies who apply to partner with artists on ArtsWestchester’s Directory of Teaching Artists for an artist residency.

For Community Residencies:
The Arts for People with Special Needs funding opportunity is designed to enable human service agencies to engage their clients in arts-making activities. This funding opportunity is designed to assist human service agencies in bringing artists on-site to conduct residencies. To be eligible for support, you must partner with a Teaching Artists on Roster.

For Cultural Organizations:
This funding opportunity supports cultural organizations serving people with disabilities such as cognitive, developmental, neurological, physical or psychological impairment. In addition to supporting cultural organizations, human service agencies may apply for artists residencies if they serve clients with mental health issues due to conditions such as, incarceration, abuse, homelessness, as well low income families or individuals.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY POET LAUREATE (2021-2022 Term)

As the designated arts agency of Westchester County, ArtsWestchester will undertake the role of organizing the Westchester County Poet Laureate program by establishing a selection process with an advisory committee, securing the County’s approval and administering the grant. The chosen Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term encouraging the community to engage with poetry by creating and leading activities that inspire writing and performances of poetry among all age groups while initiating a dialogue between local poets, cultural organizations, and community institutions.

The Poet Laureate will receive a stipend of $2,500 for the two-year term. There will be an additional $500 allotted for program costs. The two year term will begin January 1, 2021 and end on December 31, 2022. The Poet Laureate must be at least 25 years old and has been a resident of Westchester County for at least two years.
