The Days Between Today and Tomorrow

THE DAYS BETWEEN TODAY AND TOMORROW
Curated by Nilofer Naqvi

Iona College Council on the Arts and Br. Kenneth Chapman Gallery are pleased to present The Days Between Today and Tomorrow, an online virtual multimedia exhibition featuring a new series of works by Fedele Spadafora, poetry by Clint Smith and music by Thasoce. The Days Between Today and Tomorrow marks Spadafora’s first virtual multimedia exhibition and as the title suggests, logs an endless stream of monotonous working days during the crippling time of the pandemic.

In this body of paintings Spadafora carefully calibrates color and light to create a human menagerie of characters, drawn from three cities – New York, Tunis and Prague. Several of these subjects are reoccurring in the artist’s work and are painted in obsessive detail, while others are painted with the light spontaneity of a fleeting encounter.

The poem, When people say things like “we have made it through worse before”, by Clint Smith brings added gravity to the exhibition and as these days have demonstrated, more often than not, death is not longer a far away thing for some of us.

Fedele Spadafora has exhibited in a number of solo and group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. Solo exhibitions include Downtown and Carousel at Galerie Leuenroth in Frankfurt, Germany, and New Paintings at Slag Gallery in New York. Spadafora’s work is held in several collections including the permanent collection of the Museum of Art and Science in Macon, Georgia.
