About The Ground Glass

The Ground Glass, established in 1975 by Renata Rainer and other serious photographers, is an independent association dedicated to promoting the practice and appreciation of fine photography in the Tri-State area. Ground Glass membership consists of professionals and accomplished amateurs working in a variety of photographic formats. As a group and as individual artists, our members have shown their work in many major exhibition facilities. We hold at least one juried group exhibition each year. The organization’s purpose is the exploration and discussion of all aspects of photography. Monthly meetings often feature guest speakers, including well-known photographers and educators such as Jill Freedman, Dan Burkholder and Fred Conrad. A key element of our meetings is the showing and critiquing of our own work. We hold these member presentations and critiques several times a year.

The group addresses issues concerning photography through lectures, demonstrations and workshops. The Ground Glass also offers a mentoring program in conjunction with photography students at Rye High School.
