FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
From January 23 through April 30, 2022, Radius Gallery at Arc Stages will present a remarkable exhibition of photographs celebrating the reopening of Broadway by noted local photographer, Chad David Kraus. From the Wings: Broadway Behind the Scenes, showcases some of Kraus’ work over the last few years, capturing the reality of make-believe while it is being created on—and behind—the Broadway stage.
The opening reception for From the Wings: Broadway Behind the Scenes will take place at the gallery on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 5pm to 7pm.
Radius Gallery is located in the Arc Stages building at 147 Wheeler Avenue in Pleasantville New York.
From the Wings: Broadway Behind the Scenes will feature a series of photographs that explore the lives and work of the people on the Broadway stage. Along with his work photographing important political figures and families’ lifecycle milestone events, Kraus has been developing this body of photographic evidence that provides a rare look into the worlds of the cast and creative teams who put together Broadway productions. From the rehearsal process, to tech, to backstage on opening night, these glimpses of artistic storytelling will fascinate and delight anyone who loves to peer inside the development of artmaking in all its forms.
From the photographer: “I’ve looked at my images from Broadway differently since Covid. It’s been a stark reminder of how precious life, the arts, and celebrations are to us as a society. I have yet to meet a stage actor that comes across as the stereotypical “diva.” They have all been incredibly kind and caring people. I’ve worked with Tony Award winners Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Platt, Kristen Chenowith, Lauren Patten, and Katrina Lenk and they all show the utmost respect for everyone involved in bringing a piece of theater to life…whether that be their interactions with a make-up artist, costume designer, stage manager… or photographer. The theater community that I’ve been around has embodied nothing but inclusiveness. My goal is to capture the theater through my lens and tell the true story of collaboration and emotion.”
