Artist Statement
Oil/acrylic paintings of floral, landscape and domestic subject matter capture Sonika's interest. She likes form that is familiar, color that is vibrant, expression that captivates, and movement that thrills. Her exposure to art began early through engagements in visual arts, classical dance, and music, eventually leading to a bachelor’s degree in Arts Management from Purchase College (SUNY). Thereafter, she trained in studio arts with ongoing courses in oil painting and drawing (fundamental, traditional, contemporary, portrait) at the Center for the Arts of Westchester Community College (SUNY). After art-related internships and experience in art therapy, gallery management, grants/development, and nonprofits, she chose to be her own boss and began creating fine art.
