Artist Statement

The world is a strange, complicated place. Humor and sadness coexist. There is a story to tell. I attempt to represent this vision in my work. I use an assortment of art papers and fragments of my own photography to create my collages. These works on are enhanced by varying amounts of drawing. Sometimes the mark making is obviously drawn. At other times I am altering the surface to create an illusion. And illusion brings me to questions of memory. How much of our memory is real? how much is fantasy or wishful thinking? There is an unexpected fluidity of incongruous elements within the work. These components create a lyrical quality that invites you, the viewer, to tell the story as you see it or feel it. Or remember it.
