Artist Statement

Furthering my career as a teaching artist is something every great teacher I’ve had has made me promise.  It’s a part of the cyclical life of being an artist – once you reach a certain point, it is your obligation to not only push the envelope and chart new territory in your field(s) of expertise, but to also facilitate and administer the growth of others who will continue this tradition and uphold the quality and prestige of the art form.  I have reached a point in my life as an artist where my success and forward progress is guaranteed; I am involved and very much a part of the future of music and performance in Westchester County and abroad.  Now it’s time for me to create for the generation after me.

Educational Background

Marcus is a 23 year old entertainer, instructor and entrepreneur.  He is best known for his portrayal of acclaimed black writer/actor Ruben Santiago-Hudson in the HBO classic, "Lackawanna Blues" which also starred Terrence Howard, S. Epatha Merkerson, Jeffrey Wright, Mos Def, and Jimmy Smitz, and his resonating lead role in the IFC Spirit award-nominated role as Woody in Todd Haynes’s artful Bob Dylan biopic, "I'm Not There," which also featured the late Heath Ledger, Cate Blanchett, Richard Gere and Christian Bale.  Musically, Marcus has worked for Def Jam Records and interned with Kanye West.  Currently, Marcus is teaching tap all over the Hudson Valley area.
