Artist Statement

IHARTphotography is the stream of consciousness of Sara Hart, revealing the existence of her personal and professional identity that has been created and maintained by friends, family, and clients.   The lens observes the relationship between the photographer and subject, while the photographer and subject experience the relationship between the subject and their environment.   By immersing the personal world of love, loss, art, and family with that of the conceptual goals of iHARTphotography, to actively explore, select, simplify, and abstract the concepts of race, family, and identity, the photographer is able to express the moods and energy of the subjects singularities.   Selected images are combined to create the illusion of a new reality not seen in the original photograph, creating images as a reference for a more definitive and even more detailed narrative.   The images whether natural or highly stylized are purposefully mimicking and/or are influenced by a range of painting styles, pop culture advertisements, historical art, scientific documentation and categorization of African Americans and the African Diaspora.   The inspirations of these relationships take form through multiple representations and presentations via book, print, and installation, created to acknowledge who we are, where we come from and what we value, as a group of people connected to our surroundings via race, culture, family, friendship, and art.

Educational Background

Although Sara received her first camera at the age nine, it wasn’t until her early teens that she began to explore the possibilities of photography. She found that taking images of people, capturing their range of emotions and body language, gave her the best graphic representation of her thoughts.   Educated and recognized with honors for her vision at Parson’s School of Design, Sara has managed to create a style that is both aesthetically pleasing and thought provoking.  In addition to photography, Sara has pursued her love of learning and studied metal sculpture and stone carving at the Art Student League of NY in nyc & upstate NY.   Sara Hart supports the collaboration of emerging & established artists by challenging the exhibition space itself through the, residential curating project, creative childcare, improvisational documentation, & yoga squat projects.   iHARTphotography & you should too
