Artist Statement

I was trained as a painterly realist at Yale (BA, Fine Art, 1979) & The New York Studio School. Since receiving my MFA in Painting from SUNY Purchase (1991) I have worked as a teaching artist with the Westchester Arts Council (roster artist since 1998,) the Hudson River Musuem, the Pelham Arts Center, and Marquis Studios in NYC among others. I have taught workshops in murals, bookmaking, printmaking, portraiture, and drawing & painting to students from pre-school to adults. My goal is to excite the artist in each student and to give them the tools to discover their own visual self-expression. My own work comes from observations of social and physical life. My imagery ranges from landscape to still-life to portraiture. My work occurs at a point between observation and process, where I see the immediacy felt with the visual experience.
