Artist Statement

My creative efforts are twofold: DRIFTWOOD CONSTRUCTIONS represent a continuing experimentation utilizing the wood with salvaged ocean materials, mainly from the beaches of Long Island and Cape Cod (Wellfleet),where I lived and exhibited for several years. The final “heart” shape sculptures form a  new  creative life from everyday functional items, including furniture parts, boxes, fences, that were discarded, bruised and finally returned from the sea. BOX ASSEMBLAGES are thematically designed, utilizing vintage songsheets and opera librettos, along with scavenged items that visually complement the musical titles. I enjoy the entire project from repairing old frames, constructing the box and finally creating the theme with the assembled materials.
