Organization Overview

Country Dancers of Westchester was founded in 1974 to provide a venue in this area for learning and enjoying English country dance. This form of social dancing, dating back to the 1600s, is generally danced in long lines or in 2, 3, or 4 couple sets. The basic steps are woven into beautiful patterns, which are taught and then prompted by a caller and guided by live music. The community aspect of the dance is evident in the welcoming of new members, in the expectation that participants will dance with many different partners during the course of an evening, and in the incorporation of dance into many of life's celebrations, including birthdays, weddings, and memorial services.
