Painting and sketching 'en plein air' (outdoors, from life) is what, where, why and how I work. For several years I lived in the southern African countries of Botswana and Zimbabwe and I return regularly to paint, work with conservation organizations and teach Art Safaris. As a result, my subject matter was almost exclusively African, until recently when I decided to take my plein air work to the streets of my own zip code here in Westchester County. In October 2020 I began 'Painting 10573' - painting plein air, every week, for an entire year, within the 10573 zip code boundary. As with my African artwork, I include donations with every sale - 50% of proceeds from Painting 10573 will be donated to Meals on Main Street, a Port Chester-based organization which aims to eliminate food insecurity.Â
I am a signature member of Artists For Conservation and the Society of Animal Artists, and a member of the Salmagundi Club, The Explorers Club and the Mamaroneck Artists Guild. I'm British by birth but have lived in Port Chester for nearly 20 years.
