Share Your Voice: Westchester Children’s Chorus Invites Students from Grades 1-12 to September Auditions

The Westchester Children’s Chorus (WCChorus) is excited to announce that it will host auditions this coming September for young vocalists eager to join the organization. WCChorus boasts five separate ensembles, categorizing singers based on age and skill level. Notably, it has recently inaugurated a new ensemble that caters specifically to male-identifying students with changed and changing voices.

A melting pot of talent, drawing students from an impressive 30 schools across 15 different school districts, participants have the opportunity of performing in two exclusive WCChorus concerts each year, held in December and May. Furthermore, they perform in multiple community events and guest performances including the Larchmont Arts Festival, White Plains Hospital Day of Hope, Armonk Frosty Festival, Larchmont Mural Walk, and Kensico Dam Winter Wonderland. Students also have had the honor of collaborating with the Westchester Chorale, New Choral Society, and Music at Asbury, they’ve showcased their talents at the Westchester Children’s Association gala and performed the National Anthem at Harlem Globetrotters and West Point basketball games. Their debut at the esteemed Carnegie Hall in June 2022 was a crowning achievement.

At its core, the Westchester Children’s Chorus is a pillar of empowerment, equity, and engagement for a diverse community of children. Through choral education and performance, WCChorus nurtures the artistic spirit and provides immersive musical learning experiences. Moreover, it plays a pivotal role in enriching the cultural tapestry of Westchester and neighboring regions.

Uniquely, the Westchester Children’s Chorus stands as one of the few non-profit educational entities in Westchester that employ NYS Certified Music Educators. These

dedicated professionals, acclaimed in their respective fields, simultaneously serve as classroom music teachers, choral directors, and accompanists.

Steadfast in its commitment to inclusivity, WCChorus provides scholarships based on financial need. They firmly maintain that financial limitations should not hinder any child’s access to this enriching experience.

Upcoming auditions are scheduled for Thursday, September 14, 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Larchmont Avenue Church and Tuesday, September 19, 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Port Chester High School.

Rehearsals for all ensembles are scheduled every Thursday afternoon from September to May, with a hiatus during the winter holidays.
