Purchase College to Host Author Francisco Goldman
Purchase College-SUNY will host the internationally acclaimed writer Francisco Goldman on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. The program, which is free and open to the public, will take place at Purchase College in the Humanities Theatre, Humanities Building (735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, NY). The event continues this season’s Durst Distinguished Lecture Series, which brings some of the world’s finest writers to the Westchester community.
The author of four novels and two books of non-fiction, Francisco Goldman has been the recipient of many prestigious literary awards. His novel, Say Her Name, won the Prix Femina étranger, while his non-fiction book, The Interior Circuit: A Mexico City Chronicle, won the Premio Metropolis Azul. He has been a Guggenheim Fellow, a Radcliffe Institute Fellow, and a Cullman Center Fellow at the New York Public Library. He received a Premio PEN México for literary excellence and currently directs the Premio Aura Estrada.
“In both his fiction and reportage, Francisco Goldman writes honestly about the most complex subjects: love, sorrow, political trauma, the meaning of home, and the meaning of migration,” said Anthony Domestico, associate professor of literature at Purchase College. “His writing on Central America exemplifies the rigor and courage of the best investigative journalism, and his novels are lucid, moving, and brilliant.”
Upcoming Durst programs feature the highly acclaimed author Edwidge Danticat, who is the 2019-2020 Roy and Shirley Durst Distinguished Chair in Literature, on March 17 and Christopher Feliciano Arnold on April 20.
The Durst Distinguished Lecture Series and the Roy and Shirley Durst Distinguished Chair in Literature are funded by the Roy and Shirley Durst Distinguished Chair in Literature Endowment. The mission of the Durst programs is to infuse the experience and intellect of leading writers into the Purchase community, while providing diverse opportunities for these writers to interact with students and influence campus life. Durst Lecturers have won the highest level of literary honors, including National Book Awards, MacArthur Foundation Grants, Pulitzer Prizes, Guggenheim Foundation Fellowships, and Man Booker Prizes for Fiction.
