The New Choral Society presents “Fauré’s Requiem” Virtually on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 8 PM.

The New Choral Society, under the direction of Dr. John T. King, continues its 27th season with a virtual production of the beloved Fauré Requiem. It will premiere on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 8 PM and remain available to watch through May.  This audience favorite was recorded live under strict safety protocols in the acoustically beautiful sanctuary of Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale.

The award-winning chorus will present the Fauré Requiem with organ, string, and harp accompaniment.  The members of this professional orchestra have played with the New Choral Society for over 25 seasons and are members of the finest orchestras in New York City and surrounds, including the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, The Orchestra of St. Luke’s and some of the best of Broadway.

Artistic Director, John T. King says, “Of the many choral settings of the Requiem, Fauré’s is probably the most widely loved and performed. It is his almost ‘simple’ setting of peacefulness and serenity that gives it a universal appeal.”

The solo artists for this concert are a duo of bright, accomplished stars from the world of opera. Featured soprano Amy Shoremount-Obra returns to Scarsdale having most recently sung in the New Choral Society’s 25th Season Finale of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Baritone Adrian Timpau returns to the New Choral Society having sung in the final live concert before lockdown, the Mozart Grand Mass in C Minor in March of 2020.

Soprano Amy Shoremount-Obra won the Top Prize of the 2018 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition in the Wagnerian Division and was recently hailed as “Incredible! Another vocal highlight of the evening. … This is a voice of true substance.” (Boston Music Intelligencer) She made her Metropolitan Opera début as First Lady in Julie Taymor’s acclaimed production of Die Zauberflöte. Since, she returned for productions of Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, Norma, Nabucco, and Don Giovanni.

Baritone Adrian Timpau has been praised by critics as possessing “vocal glamour to burn and a magnetic stage persona”.  He is a recent graduate of both the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera and Opernhaus Zürich’s International Opera Studio. During the 2019-20 season, Mr. Timpau made his house and role debuts as Marcello in La Bohème at Seattle Opera, and as Ping in Turandot at Canadian Opera Company under the baton of Carlo Rizzi.

Tickets are $25 with a discounted $20 price for seniors and students. Tickets may be purchased online at the New Choral Society’s website www.newchoralsociety.org/spring. A link to the performance will be emailed to ticketholders the day before the concert and the performance will remain available to watch or re-watch for the entire month of May.
