JUNETEENTH CELEBRATIONS AT NEW ROCHELLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

The New Rochelle Public Library will host two jazz concerts in June in celebration of Juneteenth. These concerts are part of a collaborative New Rochelle Juneteenth Celebration presented by The Lincoln Park Conservancy.

On Friday, June 7, 7:00 pm, the Library will host an inspiring concert with Firey String Sistas! Featuring three powerhouse women: Nioka Workman on cello, Marlene Rice on violin and piano, and vocalist Mala Waldron, they blend world music, global funk, soul, and jazz into a captivating fusion, using violin, cello, bass, piano, and percussion. Attendees will be immersed in an unforgettable evening filled with unique sounds and uplifting messages, as they explore family traditions and tackle issues like climate change and the pandemic. On Friday, June 14, 2022, 7:00 pm the Library will present a musical extravaganza celebrating Juneteenth with the Eddie Allen Quintet, who will light up the stage with jazz standards made legendary by the likes of Horace Silver, the Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers, and other jazz greats. Eddie Allen, the trumpet maestro, leads the charge alongside the dynamic talents of Bruce Williams on alto/soprano sax, Oscar Perez on the keys, Kenny Davis on the acoustic bass, and Jerome Jennings on the drums. Presented by The Lincoln Park Conservancy, “Black Icons of New Rochelle – Activists, Artists, Religious Leaders & Community Advocates” will be on display in the Library’s Lumen Winter Gallery, June 4 – 21 during regular library hours.  The exhibit features the Influencers of the Black Community and their impact from the 1960s to the present, and illustrates the ties these influential individuals had to the Historic New Rochelle African American Community, and to the world. Curated by Linda Tarrant-Reid, Executive Director, The Lincoln Park Conservancy, Inc.

The concerts will take place in the Ossie Davis Theater at the New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle. Concerts are free and open to the public.

The New Rochelle Public Library (NRPL) is a community resource that seeks to improve the life of every citizen in our city.
