Ichabod: A frightening, new immersive production is coming to Bethany Arts Community

Ossining, NY –  River’s Edge Theatre Company and Bethany Arts Community are teaming up to bring a frightening new, immersive theatre production to Westchester this fall. Ichabod will run October 20-22 and 27-29. All shows 7:30pm.

Ichabod, written by Meghan Covington (Artistic Director of River’s Edge Theatre Company) and directed by Jessica Irons (Artistic Director of Theater O) is an innovative retelling of Washington Irving’s Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Patrons are invited to go back in time to the 1950s, to the night of a high school Harvest Hop. There they are encouraged to imbibe the punch, eat the cookies, dance, and fully immerse themselves in the world of the production. Playwright Covington writes, “If The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Back to the Future had a really frightening baby, Ichabod may be it.” Familiar characters (Ichabod, Katrina, Brom, The Van Tassles, and a headless ghost) will lead audience members into the dark corners of the “high school” to witness secret encounters and haunting surprises. The cast includes: Bryant Lewis, Julia Schonberg, Justin Gordon, Chris Moore, George Shepherd, and Kathryn Alexander.

Guests should be advised that because of the immersive nature of Ichabod, they may not always be seated during the show. Comfortable shoes for standing, walking, and dancing (if they so choose) are highly recommended. Also important to note, the show is meant for mature audiences only. There are depictions of violence and sexual aggressive behavior, as well as gruesome imagery that may not be appropriate for younger audiences.

10% of the ticket sales for Ichabod go to the Be a Friend Project. The Be A Friend Project is a nationwide organization supporting student “Upstanders” working to save the lives of their bullied peers and build kinder communities. As part of River’s Edge Theatre Company’s mission to create theater for social change, a percentage of proceeds are alway given to non-profit organizations that make positive changes in the local community and beyond.

This project was made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regnant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by ArtsWestchester.
