River’s Edge Theatre Co. presents Dream State: A Fusion of Synth and Shakespeare
[Hastings on Hudson, NY] – River’s Edge Theatre Co invites patrons to be transported into a world where sound and literature converge. Dream State, happening July 6th at 8pm at the River’s Edge Theatre Co Studio, is an innovative performance art experience that fuses the pulsating rhythms of electric synth with the timeless prose of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Add a bit of clowning, creative movement, and mind-bend projections, and the experience becomes unlike anything that has ever hit the Rivertowns of Westchester.
Part of River’s Edge Theatre Co’s After Hours Series, a playful exploration of love and intimacy through theatre and performing arts, Dream State invites audience members to explore a space where imagination and reality blur, and the boundaries between self and others dissolve. It’s a unique celebration of how art can break down the barriers that we create in ourselves and with the people around us.
Dream State is the brainchild of Meghan Covington, River’s Edge Theatre Co’s Artistic Director, but will be brought to life with the help of synth musician Jon Hatch and actors Sweta Keswani, Traci Redmond, and Julia Schonberg. Hatch will be providing the original soundscape for the performance which will include synthetic orchestrations mixed with recorded verse from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. Keswani, Redmond, and Schonberg will be acting as the audience’s “fairy guides” throughout the show, and will incorporate playful physical comedy, clowning, and creative movement into their interactions with audience members.
Dream State is the perfect precursor to the company’s Homegrown Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night’s Dream happening later in July at Bethany Arts Community. The Homegrown production is a fully staged version of the classic comedy, but with a sustainable twist. Everything about the show (costumes, props, even the characters themselves) is “homegrown.” The hope is that patrons will wet their pallet for experimental Shakespeare with Dream State, and then come back for more of the bard at Bethany Arts Community.
Please note: This performance is intended for adults only, and the use of strobe lights will be incorporated. The show runs approximately 60 minutes.
