Jacob Burns Film Center Presents Music Films Throughout the Summer

This summer, Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) brings groundbreaking moments in music history and legendary artists to the big screen. Through August 17, JBFC’s “Sounds of Summer” series will screen classic films alongside exciting new documentaries such as Two Trains Runnin’, which reveals the discovery of two blues legends during the Civil Rights movement (July 5), and Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked The World (August 16), a documentary that explores the influential role of Native Americans in contemporary music.

Award-winning filmmaker Jonathan Demme, who passed away in April, was an active member of the JBFC community. To honor him, JBFC has organized a nationwide celebration of the director with the simultaneous screening of his documentary debut, Stop Making Sense. More than 30 art house theaters will host screenings of the film on July 19. “The art house community… will band together to shine their projector lamps in unison and celebrate the man whose work touched us all so deeply,” explained JBFC’s Senior Programmer Andrew Jupin. Stop Making Sense showcased the band Talking Heads just after they achieved mainstream success. A multimedia photo exhibit will also remain on display in the Center’s Jane Peck Gallery through August.
