Call for Writers: READ650 Spoken Word Event

The New Rochelle Council on the Arts is excited to have READ650 return to ArtsFest this year on Sunday, October 17th. The theme of this spoken word event will be “Haunted” and READ650 is seeking submissions from local writers: Short, personal true stories to be read aloud and published in their printed and digital; anthologies. In 650 words or less, these personal narratives are short, powerful stories about meaningful life experiences, big and small.

Pieces can be original, or excerpted and adapted from earlier work. Submissions are evaluated by an editorial committee of professional writers/editors, and may be featured on READ650 podcasts, broadcasts, anthologies and on the READ 650 YouTube channel, thought they remain the writers’ to publish again elsewhere. The maximum length of 650 words translates to a five-minute spoken word piece.

The theme for October 17th is “Haunted”: True stories about premonitions, superstitions, or the thing that went bump in the night. Think ouija boards, fortune tellers, or a prank played on a sibling. What haunts you at this time of year? Tell your story about the strange, the unexplained, or the paranormal for an eerie event of tales told around a virtual campfire—”HAUNTED,” a live event planned for New Rochelle 3PM Sunday, October 17. Selected stories will also be featured in the Read650 podcast. Deadline: MIDNIGHT SEPTEMBER 1. http://ow.ly/CSl450FQANt
