A Celebration of Paraguayan Arts and Culture
This May, ArtsWestchester’s Folk Arts Program, in partnership with the White Plains Library Foundation, will present Bravo Paraguay!, a month-long celebration of the country’s arts and culture in Westchester County. Audiences of all ages are invited to this series of art, dance, music and film events that educate and engage Paraguay’s rich art traditions and culture.

Dance Heals
There are innumerable benefits that come along with artistic engagement and those benefits are not limited to the professional artists among us. It has been well documented that “engagement with creative activities has the potential to contribute toward reducing stress and depression and can serve as a vehicle for alleviating the burden of chronic disease.” In 2001, these findings and other research helped to instigate a collaboration between the Brooklyn Parkinson Group and the Mark Morris Dance Group to create Dance for PD.
Colbert Comedians
New York City has always been an epicenter of comedy and the presence of world-class performers often extends into Westchester venues. The Emelin Theatre is just such a venue and has shown a dedication to comedy by offering top tier comedy lineups for years. Major headliners like Judy Gold and Kevin Nealon have performed there and upcoming shows include Tom Papa, as well as their annual comedy showcase of Westchester’s own up-and-comers, which is still taking submissions.

Some Surprises from the Portland Cello Project
It’s not often that you see a group of cellists sharing the stage with non-classical performers, unless you happen to frequent the shows of The Portland Cello Project. The group is comprised of a rotating collective of seasoned musicians whose concept performances range from the music of Bach and Brubeck to Taylor Swift and Prince. Stripped of the usual trappings of a group anchored by classical musicians, The Portland Cello Project brought their dynamic presence to the stage last Saturday at Purchase College’s Performing Arts Center to pay homage to Radiohead’s pivotal album OK Computer.
Julliard Baroque Ensemble Performs Centuries-Old Works Composed for Violin
On March 30, Juilliard Baroque Ensemble, a group of period-instrument specialists from the faculty of the famed music school’s Historical Performance program, will kick off the Friends of Music Concerts’ spring season with an evening of 17th-and 18th-century arrangements that focus on works for violins.
“Visions and Voices” Opens in Pleasantville
This Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 12pm and 3pm, Arc Stages will be presenting a wonderful family-friendly show, “Visions and Voices!” These performances are a culmination of its playwriting festival, partnering with multiple area schools.
