4 Must-Dos at Yonkers Arts Weekend
During the weekend of May 18-19, the City of Yonkers becomes the venue for a dynamic celebration of its art, culture and music scene. Open studios, exhibitions, family-friendly workshops and more, promise fun for everyone.
The brainchild of Yonkers-based artists Evan Bishop and Katori Walker, “YES YONKERS!” is an all-inclusive, community-based art project begun with a grant from ArtsWestchester. For the first and only time, all 1000 swatches created by hundreds of people with varying levels of artistry, will be on view during the Yonkers Arts Weekend at the Riverfront Library.
Blue Door Art Center presents J.P. Howard and poet-in-residence Golda Solomon who will oversee a multi-faceted workshop that promises to “open your senses through writing.”
A full slate is scheduled at Hudson River Museum, including a family studio program inspired by the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s and 1970s, “Drop In & Draw” workshop, African dance performances by Youth Theatre Interactions and a kite-making festival.
Walk the halls of the historic Alexander Smith Carpet Mills factory building in the newly designated Carpet Mills Arts District to visit more than 50 artists in their studios.
