She He, They, We: Gender Identity in Art

Presented by Blue Door Art Center

Blue Door Art Center presents its newest exhibition, She, He, They, We: Gender Identity in Art, which explores gender identity throughout its works, until July 8. An opening reception will take place on June 3. Gallery Hours: Thurs. and Fri.: 3-6pm & Sat: 1-6pm.

 

THROUGH JUNE 26

Pride: A Celebration of Queer Stories

presented by Jacob Burns Film Center in partnership with The Loft LGBTQ+ Center

Throughout the month of June, Jacob Burns Film Center will present a series of films and events that highlight LGBTQ+ stories. On June 7, a screening of Pride will also include a preview of Incomplete, along with a Q&A with its filmmaker. On June 14, a members-only preview screening of award-winning Mutt will be preceded by two short films about queer relationships and followed by a Q&A with its director and a reception. June 20 brings special screenings of The Watermelon Woman and the short film Home Video. On June 26, a presentation of Funeral Parade of Roses includes a Q&A with Kyle Turner, author of The Queer Film Guide: 100 Great Movies that Tell LGBTQIA+ Stories.

 

THROUGH JUNE 30

Exhibition: Holding Spaces

Presented by Clay Art Center

Throughout Pride Month, Clay Art Center will present a Holding Spaces, an online ceramic exhibition that features works from six artists from within the LGBTQIA+ community. The sculptures each dive into different themes of social class and materiality. Gallery Hours: Fri, Sat, Tues, Wed: 10am-5pm & Mon and Thurs: 10am-2:30pm.

 

THROUGH AUGUST 25

Exhibition: Love is the Only Norm

Presented by Yonkers Public Library’s Riverfront Art Gallery

The exhibition Love is the Only Norm, curated by Haifa Bint-Kadi, is a celebration of 24 queer artists

Exhibited works explore themes that include history, pop culture, identity, politics, sexuality, gender and race.

 

JUNE 4

Westchester Pride

Presented by The Loft LGBTQ+ Center

Every year, the LGBTQ+ community comes out in full friendly force to celebrate Pride. This year’s Westchester Pride festivities, on Court Street between Martine and Main Avenues in White Plains, boasts emcee Sutton Lee Seymour, special guest Robin Fierce (RuPaul’s Drag Race) and a discussion and vogue performance featuring vogue legend Benny Ninja, as well as music performances, local vendors and its annual pet parade and more.

 

JUNE 4

Pride Flag Raising in White Plains

Presented by Westchester County

To celebrate Pride Month, the Westchester County LGBTQ+ Advisory Board along with County Executive George Latimer and the Westchester County Board of Legislators will be holding a LGBTQ+ Pride Flag Raising. The event will take place at the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains at 11:30am.

 

JUNE 4

Vogue: The Discovery of Self

Presented by ArtsWestchester and The Loft LGBTQ+ Center

As part of The Loft LGBTQ+ Center’s Westchester Pride event in White Plains, ArtsWestchester will host Vogue: The Discovery of Self in its Mamaroneck Avenue gallery. The event will feature Vogue legend Benny Ninja, who will discuss his life in Westchester as well as his time in the Vogue and club scenes. The talk will be moderated by his son, RIDIKKULUZ, and followed by a Vogue performance by House of Telfar outside on Court Street (between Martine and Main Avenues). At 2pm.

 

JUNE 13

Film Screening: Bros

Presented by New Rochelle Public Library

A screening of the 2022 film Bros will be supplemented by an introduction discussion by New Rochelle librarian and film historian Chris Poggiali. The movie stars comedian Billy Eichner who plays Bobby, a commitment-phobe podcast host who reevaluates everything once he meets estate lawyer Aaron.  The event is one of several offered by NRPL from June 12-17, including a children’s art workshop and storytime, and a virtual tour of the New York Historical Society’s exhibit, Safe/Haven: Gay Life in 1950s Cherry Grove.

 

JUNE 15

Film Screening: Mama Bears

Presented by Bedford Playhouse

Bedford Playhouse will kick off Pride Month with a film screening of Mama Bears. Mama Bears is a group that connect through private Facebook groups to work towards bettering the world for the LGBTQIA+ community. The film follows two “Mama Bears” and their journeys with their LGBTQIA+ children. At 6:30-8:30pm.

 

JUNE 22

LGBTQ+ Social Justice in Art, Music, and Media
presented by White Plains Public Library

The LOFT LGBTQ+ Center’s artist in residence, Christina Picciano, will offer a presentation and discussion about LGBTQ+ Social Justice in Art, Music and Media, which will examine the intersection of the arts and LGBTQ+ social justice activism and what that connection means for future of LGBTQ+ visibility in media. The event will take place in the library’s Galaxy Hall. This event is part of the library’s larger schedule of Pride events for kids, teens and adults from June 4-29 taking place both virtually and in person.
