Westchester Children’s Museum Appoints Thomas Sullivan as New Executive Director
Westchester Children’s Museum (WCM) recently appointed its new Executive Director, Thomas Sullivan. Sullivan comes to Rye from a position as Director of STEM Learning at Waterside School in Stamford, CT. He was also previously Director of Education the DuPage Children’s Museum in Illinois. He has more than 15 years of experience in education, which includes classroom teaching experience at many grade levels, including Pre-K and elementary. The appointment follows an extensive national search.
According to Carolyn Carr Spencer, the chair of WMC’s board of directors and the Museum’s search committee, the museum seeks to “build [its] education and exhibit programs, expand [its] reach and impact on the learning landscape in Westchester, and cultivate new and existing community partnerships.”
Among his responsibilities, Sullivan will work with the Board, staff and community partners to conceive and install new exhibits, introduce new STEAM experiences, and expand the Museum’s Makerspace. He takes on the role after WCM’s major expansion, which was completed just before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Says Sullivan: “Children’s museums provide a safe and healthy environment for fun, play, and creativity apart from school. The Westchester Children’s Museum is poised to serve as that hub for this region…”
