Summer Sounds Concert Series Kicks Off July 6th

Live Music every Wednesday Night at Hudson Park Band Shell and Friday Nights at New Ro Parc

The sound of music will be heard all along Long Island Sound — and in the heart of downtown New Rochelle — this summer as the New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) presents its annual summer concert series at TWO locations, both the historic Hudson Park band shell and a new spot, New Ro Parc (455 Main Street between North Avenue and LeCount Place). Both locations will feature great bands and food trucks.

The Summer Sounds Concert Series will kick off its 15th season on July 6  with the R & B sounds of Billy and The Showmen, and finish on August 31 with “yacht rock” from AM Gold; in between the series will feature an eclectic lineup of musicians performing everything from Top 40 hits to mellow jazz, country hits to classical opera, as well as Latin, rockabilly, funk and soul. In all, music lovers will get to hear exciting live music at Hudson Park on 9 consecutive Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, plus 8 Friday evening concerts at 7:30 pm at New Ro Parc.

In addition, NRCA will present an evening of FREE Shakespeare at Hudson Park with the Irvington Shakespeare Company’s production of “Love’s Labor Lost” on Sunday, July 17th at 6:30 pm.

As always there will be food trucks on site for all events offering meals and snacks for sale. In addition, the Hudson Park Children’s Greenhouse will once again offer free yoga in the park every Wednesday before the Hudson Park concerts. Instructor Angela Derecas Taylor will offer a free class suitable for people of all abilities from 6 to 6:45 pm.

The Summer Sounds concert series is presented by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, in partnership with the New Rochelle Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and co-sponsored by Webster Bank, and LMXD (the mixed-income development affiliate of L+M Development Partners) and Wilder Balter Partners.

“Attendance at last summer’s concerts were off the charts,” says Theresa Kump Leghorn, President of NRCA, “so we couldn’t be more excited to be back at Hudson Park, and to help activate a new downtown space at New Ro Parc.”

Vin Paresi, Commissioner of New Rochelle’s Dept. of Parks & Recreation, says the city is proud to continue the summer concert tradition. “We’re so grateful for the continued support of Webster Bank, which has made it possible for us to continue bringing these wonderful free concerts to the community.” For more information visit the NRCA website at www.newrochellearts.org.

Hudson Park is located at 1 Hudson Park Road in New Rochelle; limited parking is available in the lot behind the stage (for handicapped access) as well as at the marina. Parking costs $5 per car, but there is no charge for those with a Park Passport, New Rochelle Parks & Recreation’s photo identification card.  To obtain a Park Passport, photo identification is required, along with two permanent items that include name and address, i.e. driver’s license, vehicle registration, utility bill, tax statement, lease, or rent receipt. The cost is $45 per year for resident adults aged 16 to 61, or $40 for five years for resident seniors (ages 62 and up). Non-resident adults and seniors can purchase a Park Passport for $90.

New Ro Parc is located at 455 Main Street between North Avenue and LeCount Place. Parking is available on the street and in the garage at New Roc City (at Residence Inn). Centrally located in downtown New Rochelle, NewRo Parc is a welcoming outdoor venue featuring community and cultural events, food trucks, live music, outdoor movies, yoga, and more. NewRo Parc is the result of a creative partnership between LMXD (the mixed-income development affiliate of L+M Development Partners) and Wilder Balter Partners, the joint venture behind the Stella residential tower at 10 LeCount Place, as well as culture and community consultants Amy Cole and Clayton Bushong. The New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) was created by the New Rochelle City Council in 1975 to stimulate and encourage the study and presentation of the performing and fine arts. For four decades NRCA has worked to fulfill that mission by sponsoring art exhibitions, theatrical productions, dance recitals, film screenings, lectures, and concert series. In addition, NRCA has sponsored public art — like the popular NRNY Murals downtown — and created ArtsFest, while helping to build relationships between the arts, the business community and city government. The NRCA website www.newrochellearts.org  is the “go-to” place for information about the arts. NRCA’s programs are made possible, in part, by ArtsWestchester with funds from Westchester County Government, the City of New Rochelle, and the support of community donations.
