Artist Statement

As an independent dancer/choreographer/teaching artist, I am deeply invested in making dance a part of the lives of our local residents, especially our underserved and at-risk .  I believe that every person should have the opportunity to view, create and perform dance, as it is a unique means of self-expression and community building.  Dance helps us connect to our bodies, to others around us and to other art forms such as music, visual art and literature.  It promotes analytical thinking, creativity and self-awareness, while also engendering appreciation and respect for other perspectives and cultures.  It builds bridges among diverse groups, and allows its practitioners to express both their individuality and their role as a member of a larger group.  It is also joyful and beautiful!
