News Brief: Feature Film Based on Rehabilitation Through the Arts Gets A24 Distribution Deal

A feature film about Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) recently landed a distribution deal with a major production company, A24. The world premiere of Sing Sing was received with great enthusiasm earlier in the month at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film, produced independently by RTA, gives a look into the importance of the organization’s programming on the lives of the incarcerated individuals it serves. Since 1996, RTA has brought professional teaching artists into the prison system to lead workshops in theatre, dance, music, creative writing and visual arts. Less than 3% of RTA members return to prison, compared to the national recidivism rate of 60%. The majority of the actors in the film are alumni of RTA’s program.

The A24 film studio is planning for a 2024 public release of the film.
