JazzFest White Plains 2023 Lineup Announced
The presenting partners of JazzFest White Plains have announced the lineup for this year’s 12th annual festival, which will take place September 6-10. The event is a partnership between ArtsWestchester, White Plains BID and the City of White Plains with presenting sponsor Montefiore Einstein.
The celebration of jazz music offers 15 free and low-cost performances across five days at various locations throughout downtown White Plains. Locations include White Plains Public Library, ArtsWestchester, Grace Church, White Plains Farmers Market, Music Conservatory of Westchester, and an outdoor stage on Mamaroneck Avenue.
Traditionally, the festival presents an eclectic array of jazz influences. For instance, this year includes music spanning from a Colombian-born harp virtuoso (Edmar Castañeda, 9/8) to a Detroit-raised female bassist (Endea Owens, 9/10), not to mention four Grammy Award-winners. The performers also include a combination of emerging and established musicians: in the past, Buster Williams, recent Best New Artist Grammy-winner Samara Joy, Arturo O’Farrill, Emmet Cohen and Ravi Coltrane have all performed. This year, two headlining concerts, both at ArtsWestchester,
include John Scofield & Joe Lovano Quartet, a partnership that has defined contemporary jazz (9/8) and Cécile McLorin Salvant & Sullivan Fortner (9/9).
Each year, the final day of JazzFest White Plains culminates with the White Plains Food & Jazz Festival, a full-day free outdoor event on Mamaroneck Avenue. Headlining this concert on September 10 is Mount Vernon native and contemporary jazz saxophonist Mike Phillips.
