15+ Free Outdoor Movies in Westchester

Numerous family-friendly films are set to show on the outdoor screens of Westchester’s local parks and town squares. To enjoy what many consider to be an essential activity for the approaching long summer nights, guests can bring a blanket, lawn chair and a picnic for screenings of kid-approved award-winning films like Moana 2 and Wicked, among others. Here are 18 free outdoor movie screenings happening in Westchester through September:

Mufasa: The Lion King
July 3 (Peekskill)
September 6 (Mamaroneck)

In a live action prequel to Disney’s The Lion King, Mufasa: The Lion King follows the backstory of king of the Pridelands in his unlikely rise to royalty as a young cub. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to this movie screening. The first screening of the summer will take place 8pm at Pugsley Park in Peekskill. In September, the film will also be shown alongside a family camp out starting at dusk at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck.

Tangled
July 10 (Yonkers)

Based on the German fairytale Rapunzel, Disney’s Tangled follows the story of a magical long-haired princess and her isolated life being held in a tower by the evil Mother Gothel. Upon meeting ruffian Flynn Rider, Rapunzel embarks on a quest to find her true self and explore the beauties of the outside world. Screening begins at 7pm at Ridge Hill’s Town Square. Presented by Ridge Hill.

The Goonies
July 11 (Peekskill)

This ‘80s classic follows a group of young troublemakers who set on a journey to find a pirate’s long-lost treasure. Calling themselves “the goonies,” the boys learn lessons of resilience and self-acceptance while also discovering the secrets behind the legendary pirate’s treasure. At 8pm at Pugsley Park. Presented by the City of Peekskill.

Wonka
July 16 (Croton-on-Hudson)

Wonka looks at the backstory of Willy Wonka, the beloved character from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory who has youthful dreams of opening a chocolate shop. However, when he finds that the chocolate industry is run by greedy chocolatiers, he must find a way to prove himself to be the ultimate king of chocolate. The screening of this musical will include popcorn available for purchase onsite. The film begins at dusk at Senasqua Park. Presented by the Village of Croton-on-Hudson.

Encanto
July 18 (Peekskill)

Disney’s Encanto follows Mirabel, a member of a multigenerational family who all have been granted magical gifts—except for her. This lively musical, with music written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, takes place in Colombia,. The film begins at 8pm at Pugsley Park. Presented by the City of Peekskill.

The Wild Robot (Concert & Movie Series)
July 24 (Cortlandt)
September 11 (Yonkers)

This Oscar-nominated movie follows the story of Roz, a robot lost on a remote island that must adapt to her new surroundings and find companionship in the local wildlife. Prior to the screening in Cortlandt, two bands will perform: pop band The Independence and Southern rock band Blackstone. Music begins at 6pm at Cortlandt Waterfront Park. The Wild Robot will also be screened at Ridge Hill’s Town Square at 7pm in September.

Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone
July 24 (Yonkers)

Based on the bestselling novel by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone follows Harry Potter, a young orphan who discovers he is a wizard. He is accepted into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he befriends witty Hermoine and bashful Ron and discovers the hidden secrets of his parentage and legacy. The screening begins at 7pm at Ridge Hill’s Town Square. Presented by Ridge Hill.

Remember the Titans
July 25 (Peekskill)

The City of Peekskill invites guests to bring snacks and blankets for a screening of Disney’s Remember the Titans at Pugsley Park. Based on a true story, this film follows Denzel Washington as Coach Boone, a Black football coach tasked with helping his team overcome their differences after their Virginian school was recently racially integrated. At 8pm. Presented by the City of Peekskill.

Inside Out 2
July 26 (Valhalla)

As a part Screenings Under the Stars, guests are invited to enjoy a screening of Inside Out 2 at the Kensico Dam Plaza. The film follows Riley, a teenage girl struggling to accept her changing identity. Joy, Sadness and other emotions return to help Riley manage struggles like peer pressure and unexpected anxiety in this sequel to Pixar’s Inside Out. The screening begins at dusk. Presented by Westchester County Parks and Sharc Creative.

Interstellar
July 26 (Mamaroneck)

This sci-fi Christopher Nolan film follows a team of explorers traveling through space in a desperate quest to find a new home for humanity. Food trucks will be on site. Screening begins at dusk at Harbor Island Park.

Mamma Mia!
August 1 (Peekskill)

Romantic comedy Mamma Mia! follows bride-to-be Sophie as she seeks the identity of her father before her wedding day only to be met with three possible fathers. The ABBA Jukebox movie stars Amanda Seyfried as Sophie and Meryl Streep as Donna, her mother. Guests are invited to bring blankets and folding chairs to this 8pm screening at Pugsley Park. Presented by the City of Peekskill.

Aquaman
August 2 (Mamaroneck)

Arthur Curry must embrace his destiny as ruler of Atlantis to stop a war between the underwater world and the surface as Aquaman. With action-packed battles and dazzling underwater visuals, this DC superhero film is a summer crowd-pleaser. The fun begins at dusk at Harbor Island Park. Presented by the Village of Mamaroneck Recreation Department.

Moana 2
July 11 (Mamaroneck)
August 7 (Cortlandt)
August 23 (New Rochelle)

Moana 2, a sequel set three years after the original film, follows Moana and Maui in their quest to break the curse that has isolated the lost island of Motufetu. Along the way, Moana faces treacherous enemies, makes new friends and finds newfound unity within herself and her community. In Mamaroneck, the first screening of the summer will include a “tiki party,” where families and friends can enjoy food trucks and celebrate the summer weather at dusk at Harbor Island Park. In Cortlandt, Moana 2 follows a performance by the local Six-String Country Band at Cortlandt Waterfront Park, which begins at 6:30pm. The final screening from Westchester County Parks and Sharc Creative takes place at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle at dusk (Westchester residency required).

Top Gun: Maverick
August 8 (Peekskill)

This movie, a sequel to the American classic Top Gun, follows Tom Cruise as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a captain tasked with training a new generation of young pilots. As he trains them for a dangerous new mission, he must earn their respect while also confronting his traumatic past. The screening starts at 8pm at Pugsley Park. Presented by the City of Peekskill.

The Wizard of Oz
August 15 (Peekskill)

The Wizard of Oz (1935)follows young Dorothy, as she finds herself in the magical world of Oz after a tornado sweeps her away. On her quest back home, she befriends a Scarecrow, a Lion, and a Tinman. This screening is in conjunction with Peekskill’s Oz Fest, a festival dedicated to celebrating the legacy of The Wizard of Oz. In addition to the screening, guests will be invited to enjoy raffles, an art show, dance performances and local retail and food vendors. Screening at Pugsley Park at 8pm. Presented by the City of Peekskill.

Wicked
August 14 (Ridge Hill)
August 16 (Peekskill)

A cinematic adaptation of the successful Broadway musical, Wicked focuses on two witches — the forgotten characters of The Wizard of Oz. The film follows the unlikely friendship of the wicked Elphaba and the righteous Glinda, as they attempt to amend rising prejudice growing in the land of Oz. Ridge Hill will screen this film in its Town Square at 7pm. The City of Peekskill will also screen Wicked as part of its Oz Fest. The film begins at 8pm at Pugsley Park.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3
August 28 (Yonkers)

Based on the iconic video game character, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 follows a determined Sonic and his friends, Knuckles and Tails, as they fight against the villainous Shadow and Dr. Robotnik to save their planet. The team must make unlikely friendships and gain new powers to fight the enemy and protect their world from destruction. At 7pm at Ridge Hill’s Town Square. Presented by Ridge Hill.

Haunted Mansion
September 12 (Croton-on-Hudson)

This PG-13 film follows a family who discovers ghosts living in their brand-new mansion. Single mother Gabby hires a psychic, a priest, a tour guide and a historian to perform an exorcism as she unveils new secrets about her home and family. Haunted Mansion begins at dusk in Senasqua Park. Presented by the Village of Croton-on-Hudson.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3
September 25 (Yonkers)

Ridge Hill presents Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a superhero film that revisits the adventures of the Guardians, a group of misfits tasked with defending the galaxy from malicious villains. However, once the Guardians discover a planet filled with cruel animal experiments, the team must fight supervillain High Evolutionary and save the universe for the final time. At 7pm at Ridge Hill’s Town Square. Presented by Ridge Hill.
