Westchester Celebrates Women’s History Month 2025

March represents Women’s History Month, honoring the achievements and contributions of women throughout history. Across Westchester, arts organizations are celebrating women across a multitude of disciplines. These events showcase the creativity and impact women have instilled over time.

Breaking Barriers in Baseball
Presented by New Rochelle Public Library

This event features a conversation between veteran Yankees radio broadcaster Suzyn Waldman and acclaimed author Melissa Ludtke about the challenges women face in sports media. In her memoir, Locker Room Talk: A Woman’s Struggle to Get Inside, Ludtke details her fight in federal court that argued for female reporters to have rights to have the same ability and access as her male counterparts to interviews the ballplayers. Waldman was with the Yankees for 39 seasons, including 21 seasons on the radio. (1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle)

Echoes of Silence: Immersive Ballet by MorDance
Presented by Hudson River Museum

MorDance presents Echoes of Silence, an immersive ballet that pays tribute to influential female singer-songwriters from the 1960s and 1970s. Set in the galleries of the Hudson River Museum, the performance features live music by a guitarist and vocalist, exploring themes of resilience and transformation. In addition to the performance, guests can participate in a bilingual sketching workshop with artist Carolina Amarillo and view current exhibitions. (511 Warburton Avenue, Yonkers)

Schubert Club Performers Celebrate Women’s History Month
Presented by Pound Ridge Library

The Schubert Club Performers present a performance that features works by women composers, including Cécile Chaminade, Clara Schumann and Anne Hunter. The program includes solo piano pieces, vocal performances, and original compositions by the performers. (271 Westchester Ave., Pound Ridge)

The Hello Girls
Presented by Irvington Theater

Irvington Theater presents a production of The Hello Girls by Broadway Training Center (BTC) of Westchester. The musical, based on the true story of America’s first female soldiers, tells the tale of bilingual telephone operators who served during World War I and later fought for recognition back home. This production features BTC’s Senior Ensemble Program, directed by Artistic Directors Jason Brantman and Fiona Santos. (85 Main Street, Irvington)

Author Talk: The Joy of Connections by Dr. Ruth
Presented by Hudson River Museum

Authors Mary Calvi and Allison Gilbert discuss the book, The Joy of Connections, which was co-authored by Gilbert and the late Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer. The conversation delves into Dr. Ruth’s strategies for combating loneliness and the friendship that developed between her and Gilbert during their collaboration. A Q&A and book signing will follow. Women’s Writes: 24-Hour Play Fest
Presented by River’s Edge Theatre Company

River’s Edge Theatre Company presents a play festival that features works by female playwrights. This fast-paced event showcases short plays written and performed within a single day.
