New York, October 15, 2024. The Center for the Digital Arts Gallery of the Peekskill Extension of SUNY Westchester will exhibit Kara Wilson’s work, Identity, from February 4 through April 25, 2025. The opening reception will be on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; the public is welcome.
This exhibition features original limited-edition screenprints by Kara Wilson. Kara’s work considers identity through reconstructing archetypes specific to the individual. This abstract work is rooted in an underlying architecture constructed with layers of irregular shapes and symbols. Each element represents traits of a person, how someone could be seen anew through a dream-like lens. Â
Her visions are influenced by human nature’s inherent ability to qualify, identify, and label for its own needs. Perhaps we can also find comfort and familiarity through reordering. This body of work invites you to look for new connections between spaces and unfamiliar forms. Â
Kara Wilson is a Western Mass born visual artist, working primarily in screenprinting. She currently resides with her family in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Â Kara holds a B.S. in Studio Art and Art Education from Skidmore College, with concentrations in painting and graphic design. She also studied printmaking mediums, including woodblock printing and lithography, giving her a foundation for her self-taught screenprinting technique. Kara is a professional graphic designer and has been a creative director in the publishing field for over 20 years.Â

About SUNY Westchester Peekskill Center for the Digital Arts
The renovated SUNY Westchester Community College Peekskill Center, established in 1994, is located in the downtown artist district of the city of Peekskill, close to other cultural centers, galleries, and restaurants and serves over 1,000 students per year. The Open Studio Access Package and 3D Printing & Modeling Access offer facility access with technical support to community artists and entrepreneurs who wish to work on independent projects. The center also offers a dynamic STEAM summer Youth Arts Technology Program offering young people an opportunity to develop a digital arts portfolio within a college environment; and fine arts courses with local artists who will enhance drawing and painting skills for both professional and personal use. The Peekskill Center of SUNY Westchester Community College has something to offer for everyone.
