Arts & Culture Activities for Mother’s Day Weekend 2026

Westchester residents and visitors can celebrate Mother’s Day weekend (May 9 & 10) with a dose of the arts. The county is full of concerts, gardens, historic sites and hands-on activities, so ArtsNews rounded up some highlights.

Tour a Historic Site

Glenview at Hudson River Museum (Yonkers)
Hudson River Museum’s Glenview tours move through this 1877 Gilded Age mansion filled with custom carved woodwork and period furnishings, as seen in The Gilded Age and Severance. Tours at 1pm and 3pm both days. 

Washington Irving’s Sunnyside (Irvington)
Washington Irving’s Sunnyside invites visitors into the riverside home of the famed author of Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The literary history tour is complemented by gardens and views of the Hudson. Tours between 10am and 3:30pm.

Union Church of Pocantico Hills (Tarrytown)
Union Church of Pocantico Hills offers visitors a first-hand look at nine Marc Chagall windows and Henri Matisse’s Rose Window inside this intimate historic church. Saturdays and Sundays, every 30 minutes between noon and 3pm. 

Lyndhurst Mansion (Tarrytown)
Lyndhurst Mansion several tours of its Gothic Revival estate, which is surrounded by river views and landscaped grounds. Classic Mansion Tour covers the mansion’s history while Backstairs Tour visits the tower and servants’ spaces. Daily in Tarrytown. 9:30am-5pm.

Rosen House Signature Tours – Caramoor (Katonah)
The docent-led tour on May 9* will explore the Mediterranean-style villa of former owners, Walter and Lucie Rosen, Caramoor’s founders. Home to the Music Room performance space, Asian and Renaissance art collections and period rooms. 11am and 12pm.
*May 9 will be guests’ last chance to participate in this tour before it makes way for and 2026 Focus Tour: Inside Lucie’s Wardrobe and resumes again in September.

Hudson River Spring Arts & Crafts Festival (Ossining)
The Hudson River Spring Arts & Crafts Festival, presented by Croton Council on the Arts, brings approximately 70 artisans to Windrose on Hudson on May 9 & 10 for a weekend of indoor and outdoor programming, including brunch and children’s activities.

Bridget Jones’s Diary – Bedford Playhouse (Bedford)
Bedford Playhouse marks Mother’s Day with a 25th anniversary screening of Bridget Jones’s Diary, which chronicles the dating adventures of Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger). Ticket includes a light lunch and glass of wine. On May 10 at 1pm. 

Get Inspired with an Artist Talk

Artist Talk and Tour with Sandy Skoglund – Hudson River Museum (Yonkers)
On May 9, Hudson River Museum hosts Sandy Skoglund for a gallery talk and tour focused on her theatrical approach to photography that is featured in the museum’s Modern Women / Modern Vision exhibition that closes the following day. 2pm.

Artist Talk in the Garden – KinoSaito (Verplanck)
KinoSaito’s Artist Talk in the Garden on May 9 combines an in-person walkthrough with artist Kurt Steger and a curator-led discussion of Irina Lotarevich’s wall-mounted sculptures. 3pm.

Catch a Performance

Season Finale: All Romantic Music – Symphony of Westchester (New Rochelle)
Symphony of Westchester closes its season on Mother’s Day weekend with a, All-Romantic Music program of Dvorak, Rossini and Elgar, featuring violinist Masha Lakisova. On May 9 at Iona University in New Rochelle. 8pm.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream – The Play Group Theatre (White Plains)
The Play Group Theatre brings A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare’s eternal classic comedy about meddling fairies, love potions and magical forests, to its stage in White Plains. On May 10 and 17 at 2pm and 7pm. 

Orpheus in Hamburg: Telemann’s Private World – Ars Antiqua (Chappaqua)
Ars Antiqua’s Orpheus in Hamburg turns to Telemann for a program of Baroque music followed by a German buffet reception. On May 9 at the Historic Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Chappaqua. 7:30pm.

Conciertos in D – Taconic Opera (Tarrytown)
Taconic Opera brings an orchestral program to Tarrytown Music Hall on May 9 with two concertos in one show: Ravel’s Concerto for Left Hand in D Major and the world premiere by General Director Dan Montez’s Piano Concerto #2 in D Minor. 3pm.

Pagans, Pitchforks & Psalms – Westchester Oratorio Society (Mount Kisco)
Westchester Oratorio Society presents an all-Mendelssohn program built around sacred and dramatic choral music. On May 9 at the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco. 7:30pm.

Vincent Herring & Eric Alexander Quintet – Jazz Forum Club (Tarrytown)
Saxophonists Vincent Herring and Eric Alexander are joined by an all-star rhythm section – pianist Mike LeDonne, drummer Kenny Washington and bassist John Webber – for a set that leans into hard-swinging jazz. On May 9 at 7pm and 9:30pm.

Make Mom a Gift

Children’s Art Workshop – Blue Door Art Center (Yonkers)
Blue Door Art Center hosts a children’s workshop for ages 5 to 12 that gives families a chance to make something by hand rather than buy it. On May 9 at 10am.

Mini Sun Print – KinoSaito (Verplanck)
KinoSaito’s Mini Sun Print workshop on May 10 lets families experiment with creating their own cyanotype print inspired by the work by Alison Knowles currently on display in the center’s gallery. The workshop is a drop-in format. 1pm.

Family Workshops – Hudson River Museum (Yonkers)
Hudson River Museum will be a one-stop shop for craft activities this weekend with several workshop options for families, including a beaded windchimescritter magnets and decorating picture frames. Both days, 12-4pm.

ArtsMobile at Ridge Hill (Yonkers)
ArtsWestchester’s ArtsMobile will make a pop-up appearance at Ridge Hill Shopping Center, leading a Mother’s Day card-making workshop. 10am-1pm.

Explore a Local Museum or Gallery

Stephen Antonakos: Proscenium – Neuberger Museum of Art (Purchase)
Take a moment to reflect in front of Stephen Antonakos’ monumental neon light installation. The work playfully invites viewers to observe the illuminated lines and shapes in an otherwise dark room. On view in spring 2026.

Modern Women / Modern Vision – Hudson River Museum
Modern Women / Modern Vision: Photographs from the Bank of America Collection surveys works by 97 woman photographers like Dorothea Lange, Carrie Mae Weems and more, from 1905 to present. On view through May 10.

Yonkers Artist Showcase – Yonkers Arts
Now in its 17th year, this juried showcase spotlights the depth and diversity of the city’s creative community, featuring work by 65+ artists connected to Yonkers. Work spans painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. On view through May 16.

Horizons: Paintings by Janet Langsam – Hudson River Museum (Yonkers)
In this installation of four large-scale abstract paintings, painter and arts advocate Janet Langsam considers the horizon as a central element of nature that shifts along with the inevitable ebb and flow of its seasons. On view through June 21.

Food for Thought – Neuberger Museum of Art (Purchase)
This exhibition at the Neuberger Museum of Art celebrates the 40th anniversary of Guerrilla Girls, an anonymous collective of female artists that bring attention to the imbalance of female representation in major galleries in museums. On view through August 2.

The Eyes of the City – The Capa Space (Yorktown Heights)
Between 1977 and 2001, photographer Richard Sandler documented New York City in unfiltered detail. The images catch the odd, funny and tense moments that pass through city streets without smoothing them into nostalgia. On view through June 28.

Take in the Great Outdoors

Lyndhurst Mansion (Tarrytown)
For those who want the setting without the full house tour, Lyndhurst’s daily grounds pass opens up its grounds for walking, picnicking and river views. Daily from 9:30am-5pm (last entry: 4:30pm).

Untermyer Gardens Conservatory (Yonkers)
Untermyer Gardens remains one of Westchester’s most striking outdoor destinations, complete with its restored Walled Garden, Tower of Love atop a cascading water feature Vista and famed. Open daily, 9am-6pm.

Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden (North Salem)
At Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden, visitors will discover pristine winding paths, seasonal plantings, a pond active with turtle and frog visitors, and gallery spaces. 11am-5pm.

Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts (Katonah)
Guests can visit Caramoor’s grounds to spend time before a performance or just to take a stroll.  There, visitors can see gardens, picnic spots and sound-art installations spread across the property. Open daily, 10am-4pm.
