Artist Statement

Marion Jones Archer is an African dancer.  She is the founder of the Revelators Dance Troupe and volunteers her time teaching various dance forms from other countries and cultures to students.  She is currently working with Cecil Parker Elementary School and Eastchester Schools teaching African Dance and the art of communication through dance.

Teaching Artist Experience

Marion has used African dance, music and drumming, culture, history, traditions, storytelling and re-enactment of events to integrate the arts with social studies (Native American studies, U.S. history), math (parts of a beat, fractions) and science (animal behavior, adaptations, environments) curricula for students in Westchester elementary schools including Schools 17 and 30, Museum School 25, and Thomas Cornell Academy in Yonkers, and Williams, Grimes and Rebecca Turner Elementary Schools in Mount Vernon. She has also worked with senior citizens in Grace Plaza, and adults and families in other centers. Many of her workshops culminate in special performances and celebrations.
