On Saturday evening November 23 the Westchester Oratorio Society under the direction of David Štech will present Honegger’s dramatic “King David” oratorio at the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco beginning at 7 PM. The work will be sung in English and feature soloists Olivia Greene, Soprano, Emily Geller, Contralto, Aaron Blankfield, Tenor, and narrator David Salsbery Fry, accompanied by the WOS Chamber Orchestra and the magnificent von Beckerath Organ at the church.
Swiss composer Arthur Honegger wrote “King David” in 1921. Unique and evocative, the Old Testament work tells the biblical story of David’s life from shepherd boy to king, his victories, intrigues, and death. The performance will be the first for the oratorio society under the baton of Mr. Štech who was appointed artistic director last summer.
“Westchester Oratorio Society is one of the area’s real treasures,” Štech said, “and has gained a reputation for sharing masterworks of music that aren’t often performed. This is the greatest oratorio you’ve never heard!”
“King David” begins at 7 PM. Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco is located at 605 Millwood Road (Rte. 133), Mount Kisco, NY. Tickets are $25 general, $40 preferred and $10 student in advance ($30/50/15 at the door). Advanced tickets are available through the group’s website, www.westchesteroratorio.org.
