Westchester County, Fall, A Photographer’s Pallett
Westchester County, Fall, A Photographer’s Palette
By Jerry Spette
In these hectic times, fall photography can offer a rewarding, peaceful pastime. A fun way to relax while simultaneously exploring one’s inner artistic talents, photography can be a great escape from work, housekeeping, tending the kids and struggling with the budget. Right here in Westchester County, areas abound with photogenic beauty.
Our county offers an abundance of colorful subjects to photograph at any time of year. Besides the obvious extensive array of colors that flowers manifest; fast flowing streams reflect the deep blue sky, spillways at our local dams gush from spring’s thaw, and in the woodlands spring buds are popping out all over producing a palette photographers cherish. And, with a creative eye, even skunk cabbage can presented as a lovely image.
A visit to one Westchester’s wonderful open spaces will produce a bounty of inspirational subjects to fill a viewfinder. The Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining, Rockefeller’s State Park Preserve in Sleepy Hollow, the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation off route # 121, the shoreline of Long Island Sound and a walk along the majestic Hudson River are few of the many locations locally that will assist you in clearing your mind while stimulating your creative juices. So, grab your camera gear and venture out to capture an abundance of beauty in Westchester County’s lovely open spaces.
Joining one of Westchester’s photography groups is a wonderful venue to meet people and better your camera skills. The Color Camera Club of Westchester, www.colorcameraclub.com, The Westchester Photographic Society www.wpsphoto.org and the Ground Glass photography group http://groundglassphoto.org/index.htm are a few local groups of photographers, here in Westchester County, who get together to improve their craft, learn about new equipment and techniques, to receive inspiration and to enjoy some social fun.
Westchester offers a fast array of venues to visit and photograph. With its exceptional outdoor parks, harbors, and picturesque hills and valleys, Westchester provides a gorgeous palette and a superb opportunity for rest and relaxation.
