Westchester Choral Society ended the Fall season with a sing-along of favorite holiday music and a virtual holiday party that offered the opportunity to connect with one another and to “schmooze” which is important for the group to remain strong.
During the Fall season, under the expert guidance of Music Director Frank Nemhauser and Associate Music Director David Baranowski, the choir successfully rehearsed Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder Walzer while also focusing on the perfect pronunciation of the German text. Members hope to present this beautiful music in a concert in the future. Nemhauser also offered lessons in Musicianship, particularly on Solfege and Rhythm, which was much appreciated.
On January 12th, the choir will meet for their first virtual rehearsal of the Spring season. Nemhauser selected Handel’s L’Allegro, il Penseroso, ed il Moderato (The Cheerful, The Thoughtful, the Moderate Man). He stated, “It’s a wonderful oratorio, in English, with great music for chorus.” The first two movements are based on poems by John Milton. The third movement is based on a poem by Charles Jennens. George Frideric Handel, a German-born English composer of the late Baroque era, was known particularly for his operas, oratorios, and instrumental compositions. He wrote the most famous of all oratorios, Messiah.
Both Nemhauser and Baranowski bring knowledge, enthusiasm, and humor to the group. Members express feeling enlightened and uplifted after rehearsals.

About Westchester Choral Society
The award-winning Westchester Choral Society was founded by Sarah Stewart Bowne in 1942 to perform Bach’s B minor Mass with 15 singers. Today we are 55 singers performing works from Baroque to contemporary, presenting three concerts per season as well as Summer Sings and other musical events. Smaller ensembles are available for private and community performances. We welcome singers in all voice ranges to join us at a rehearsal before auditioning. We rehearse Tuesday evenings at the Music Conservatory of Westchester in White Plains (handicapped accessible; free parking available; near public transportation). To arrange a trial membership, contact WCS President Numa Rousseve at 914-285-9026. The Westchester Choral Society is a proud member of Chorus America, the Vocal Area Network, and ArtsWestchester, which honored us in 2000 with its Arts Organization Award.
