Westchester Children’s Chorus to Extend Its Reach to Northern Westchester from January 2024

The Westchester Children’s Chorus (WCChorus) is thrilled to reveal its expansion plans to extend its services to young vocalists in Northern Westchester and Putnam counties. Auditions for this exciting opportunity are happening in Yorktown Heights on Tuesday, January 9.

WCChorus boasts five distinct ensembles, carefully placing singers based on age and skill level. Notably, they have recently introduced a brand-new ensemble tailored specifically for male-identifying students whose voices are in the process of changing.

This ensemble is a dynamic mix of talent, drawing students from a network of over 30 schools spanning 15 districts. Members of WCChorus enjoy the unique privilege of showcasing their talent in two concerts hosted by WCChorus each year, held in December and May. They also take part in numerous community events and guest performances, including the Larchmont Arts Festival, White Plains Hospital Day of Hope, Armonk Frosty Festival, Larchmont Mural Walk, and Kensico Dam Winter Wonderland.

At its core, the Westchester Children’s Chorus is a pillar of empowerment, equity, and engagement for a diverse community of children. Through choral education and performance, WCChorus nurtures the artistic spirit and provides immersive musical learning experiences.

Steadfast in its commitment to inclusivity, WCChorus provides scholarships based on financial need. They firmly maintain that financial limitations should not hinder any child’s access to this enriching experience.

Uniquely, the Westchester Children’s Chorus is one of the few non-profit educational entities in Westchester that employ NYS Certified Music Educators. These dedicated professionals, acclaimed in their respective fields, simultaneously serve as classroom music teachers, choral directors, and collaborative pianists.

Rehearsals for the up-county ensembles are scheduled for Tuesday afternoons from 4:30 – 6:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown, 2880 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights from January to May, with optional rehearsals during winter and spring break.
