STRUGGLE Opens at the Rotunda Gallery Feb. 15th
Exhibit features works by 24 artists
Struggle – An Exhibit of Our Times will open at the NRCA Rotunda Gallery at New Rochelle City Hall (515 North Avenue) on February 15th. Presented by The Lincoln Park Conservancy, Inc., the New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) and the Iona Council on the Arts, with support from the Verizon Foundation, the exhibit includes works by 24 artists. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, visitors are not permitted in the NRCA Rotunda Gallery at this time, so a virtual exhibit will be mounted simultaneously and available on YouTube.
According to NRCA Rotunda Gallery Chairperson Linda Tarrant-Reid the theme “Struggle” was chosen to reflect “these critical times of colliding turmoil, in which each of us is faced with multiple “struggles.” In the age of Black Lives Matter, the Covid-19 Pandemic, economic uncertainty, food insecurity and political upheaval, we find ourselves reaching for an understanding, a resolution, or a recognition of our personal struggle. The artist’s voice is strong and brings an awareness of the reality of that struggle to the audience. Art offers a reflection of one’s experiences.”
The exhibit includes works by 24 artists from Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Connecticut and New York City. Struggle is part of Quest for Justice – A 60-Year Commemoration of the Lincoln School Decision, a multi-event series produced by The Lincoln Park Conservancy, Inc.to commemorate the historic desegregation case. The series began with the Quest for Justice Kickoff on Facebook LIVE on January 24th — which featured 15 state, county and local politicians – and will be followed by a screening of the documentary Leveling Lincoln in May. Other events for the Quest for Justice Commemoration will include panel discussions on race and white privilege, education inequality and other important topics of our time.
Struggle – An exhibit of Our Times is curated by Judith Weber, assisted by Linda Tarrant-Reid, Billie Tucker, Barbara Bock and Cynthia Reid.
