A Surreal, Wordless Rebellion Inspired by Alice in Wonderland

Ossining, NY – River’s Edge Theatre Company proudly announces Off With Her Head, a bold, movement-driven theatrical spectacle inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll.

Strange, surreal, and visually electrifying, Off With Her Head reimagines Alice’s journey as a visceral feminist awakening. In this wordless physical theatre piece, our heroine navigates shifting rooms, impossible rules, and exaggerated expectations embodied by a towering Red Queen — part idol, part omen — who represents every system that silences voices that dare to grow too large.

Blending clowning, dance, and puppetry, the production transforms Wonderland into a landscape of pressure and performance. Without a single spoken word, Off With Her Head captures the chaos of trying to “fit” into spaces that were never built for you — and the radical act of taking up space anyway.

“As a woman and mom of three daughters, creating a show that would encourage audiences to question the systems and ideals that restrict and compartmentalize women is deeply important to me.” Says Meghan Covington, who is both the playwright and Artistic Director of River’s Edge. “This is not your typical Alice in Wonderland story, it’s a battle cry for equality.” The piece continues the company’s commitment to innovative theatre for social change, that is both playful and provocative.

Off With Her Head is directed by Jessica Irons (Artistic Director of Theater O in Ossining) and choreographed by Megan Roe. The original score for the show was created by local musician Jon Hatch.

Off With Her Head is a theatrical experience for audiences ages 7 to adult, who love bold new work.
