Hastings-on-Hudson, NY — April 30th 2025 — In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, River’s Edge Theatre Co. is proud to present World Builders, a darkly funny and deeply compassionate play by Johnna Adams, running May 30th, 31st, and June 1st at River’s Edge Theatre Company’s studio in Hastings-on-Hudson.

Set in a clinical trial facility, World Builders tells the story of Whitney and Max, two individuals undergoing experimental treatment for schizoid personality disorder. Each has spent their life building vast, imaginary worlds as a means of coping with isolation—but when the treatment threatens to erase those inner landscapes, the two form a fragile, unexpected connection in the real world.

“As a theatre company committed to meaningful storytelling, we’re honored to present a piece that explores mental health with empathy, honesty, and imagination,” says Artistic Director Meghan Covington. “This production invites audiences to consider what healing really looks like—and whether letting go of the worlds we create to survive is always the right answer.”

Presented during Mental Health Awareness Month, World Builders aims to de-stigmatize conversations around mental illness and neurodiversity, and to foster empathy for those living with invisible challenges.

World Builders is directed by Mark Cajigao and features local actors Julia Schonberg and Chris Moore. With minimal staging and a focus on performance and connection, the production offers an intimate, emotionally resonant theatre experience.
