Kroll Ceramic Arts School at the Hammond Museum
KROLL CERAMIC ARTS SCHOOL at the Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden
The Kroll Ceramic Arts School is opening at the Hammond Museum in North Salem, New York this fall. The school aims to be a place where the community can come together to learn, explore, create and appreciate ceramic arts.
The Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden’s mission since its inception has encouraged educational and innovative programs in the arts with rotating exhibitions, lectures, and workshops. This program is designed for everyone, from the causally curious to the established artist, to be able to come together and be transformed and enriched through the shared experience of art.
OPEN HOUSE will be held on Saturday, September 7th from 3-6pm where prospective students are invited to view the new studio space, meet the instructors, and learn more about the program. Refreshments and champagne will be served.
As an extension of the Hammond Museum, enrolled students will gain access to the Japanese Stroll Garden, art exhibitions, non ticketed events and enriching lectures on days when they attend class and within museum hours (Wednesday-Sunday 11-5pm).
This studio and engaging program is thanks to the generous gift from Lisa Kroll Witt. She worked as an accomplished ceramicist after a highly successful career as a designer and CEO of high-end international home-furnishing textile companies.
Lisa Kroll Witt commented, “ My own contact with clay and the experience of creating with my own hands was the beginning of a new artistic journey for me. Creating the Kroll Ceramic Arts School is an effort to enrich the lives of others through ceramics. I believe that everyone should have this joy of creating art.”
The school opens its doors to everyone with a passion for the arts and profound respect for natural beauty. Ceramic Arts requires individual thought and expression and can serve as a powerful educator to that end.

Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden: The Museum hosts Moonviewing concert in addition to a Swing Band Dance in August and a Shakespeare play during the summer. We also offer children’s programs on designated Saturdays and the Animal blessing in May. The most important exhibit is our garden, it is a beautiful 3 acre Japanese Stroll Garden that will please all, from the young to the old. It features a waterfall, maple terrace and two ponds that are filled with frogs and fish. The exhibits that we offer in the galleries range from Asian to Contemporary art. We also offer a gift shop that specializes in hard to obtain Asian items.
The Hammond Museum was created as a foundation of support to promote global awareness and development of Eastern cultures with the West. It continues to reach out and support its wide community of artists and performers in the Greater New York Metropolitan Region.
