“Open Mic” Stage Now Available To Young Musicians
Hosted at Westchester’s Lagond Music School
Monthly Showcases Allow Soloists and Bands To Sign Up
And Play Music In A “Club” Environment
Elmsford, NY – December 23, 2019 —Young musicians can’t easily showcase their talents in local bars and clubs, but they can now at the Lagond Music School’s “open mic” monthly performance sessions. Lagond’s open mics take place every third Sunday from 6:30 to 8PM, with the next session taking place on January 17, 2020. Subsequent dates are as follows: February 21st, March 20th, April 17th, May 15th, June 19th, July 17th and August 21st.
“Some of our most accomplished students perform, but the stage is open to anyone from 8-18 years of age, regardless of their level or musical style,” said Lagond director Rosanne Lana. The open mic sessions are an outgrowth of the larger Lagond Music School program. “Our open mic is a safe place, to test out material and performance skills, and anyone can walk in, sign up and play.”
The open mic sessions at Lagond take place in the school’s performance space known as “The Haven” which features a professional stage with instruments and sound equipment run by an in-house technician. Club lighting and seating complete the mood and give musicians a true performance experience. Performers using “backing tracks” welcome!
Parents, siblings and friends typically attend the open mics, but the whole community is invited. “I hope everyone who reads this and has young children will make a point of coming by for the open mics. They’re inspiring, and for a young musician, or a kid thinking of becoming a musician, could be life changing. And in any case, they’re a lot of fun!”
