Friends of Music Concerts presents mezzo-soprano Megan Moore with pianist Francesco Barfoed
SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY – Friends of Music Concerts, which is celebrating 71 years of presenting the finest in professional chamber music, is delighted to open its 2025 spring season on Sunday, March 30, 3 p.m., with mezzo-soprano Megan Moore, accompanied by pianist Francesco Barfoed.
Performances are scheduled to take place at Sleepy Hollow High School auditorium, 210 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., with ample free parking and handicapped access. Tickets are $40 for adults, free for those age 18 and under, and available here.
Moore, a previous winner of FOMC’s Young Concert Artists Performance Award, had a busy opera season in 2024. She appeared as Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni” with San Diego Opera, as Rosina in “The Barber of Seville” with Seattle Opera and as Sesto in “Julius Caesar” with Opera Theater of Saint Louis.
She also performed in several New York-area recitals. She is acclaimed for her Rossini interpretations, “elegant vocal gymnastics,” and “rapid-fire coloratura.” Besides Rosina, another of Moore’s signature roles is the title role in “La Cenerentola.” When she appeared as Doraballa in “Così fan tutte” at Juilliard, OperaWire praised her “undeniable sex appeal” and “strength as an actress.”
Her collaborator, pianist Francesco Barfoed, seems to like accompanying singers, since he and Moore won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2020 and he won again in 2022 with baritone Joseph Parrish, whom FOMC presented last season.
Moore and Barfoed also won first prize in the Copenhagen Lied-Duo Competition and second prize at the Naumberg Foundation International Vocal Competition.
They will present a program of songs that include Mahler’s meditation on love and loss in “Songs of a Wayfarer,” three of Rachmaninoff’s deeply emotional “Six Songs, Opus 38” and Prokofiev’s radiant “Five Poems of Anna Akhmatova.”
Moore and Barfoed also have programmed 20th century composer Yvette Souviron’s “Al banco solitario” and “Carnavalito,” and selections from African-American composer B.E. Boykin’s “Moments in Sonder,” with text from the poetry of Maya Angelou.
This concert is generously sponsored, in part, by the Raymond Han and Paul Kellogg Foundation.
