Celebrating Our Golden Season with Wuza Wuza

6:30 pm Saturday, August 2nd

Untermyer Park, 945 North Broadway, Yonkers

Another free program presented by the Untermyer Performing Arts Council!

To continue celebration of our 50th season, the Untermyer Performing Arts Council is delighted to present Wuza Wuza at 6:30 pm on August 2nd at Untermyer Park, 945 North Broadway, Yonkers.

Wuza Wuza means “you and us together as one” by combining the Akan word wu, or “you,” and the Dagbani word zaa, or “together as one.” It also conjures the name of this dance company’s founder, Yawuza Alhassan, one of Ghana’s most internationally renowned dancers and choreographers, and founder of group as a solo endeavor, Wuza Wuza was launched in 2005 at the British Council of Ghana by a group of Ghanaian artists deeply invested in the expression of African tradition and cultures. Educated in traditional African music and sharing the vision of preserving and creatively developing African music and dance, Wuza Wuza company members are highly trained performers and instructors, having completed rigorous residencies with prestigious companies such as the National Dance Company of Ghana, Noyam African Dance Institute, and collaborating with members of the Sogo dance troupe, Nbanba Culture dance, N.Y.C. Dance troupe, Gyanomo Dance Troupe and many others.

All Wuza Wuza pieces reflect life through the unity of rhythm and movement: the wide-ranging repertoire, culled from indigenous, imaginative and contemporary sources, aims to unite, educate and entertain while representing Ghana and Africa around the world. Experienced and disciplined, Wuza Wuza expresses the motto “Peace, Love and Joy” at international and national productions.
