LARCHMONT, NY (May 1, 2025) – Comedy From Scratch, at The Idea Kitchen, in Larchmont, NY, the longest functioning, single-location stand-up comedy club in Westchester (founded January 2023),was awarded “Best of Westchester Comedy Show” by Westchester Magazine, and in May will be expanding its shows from once a month to every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, making it the only single-venue Westchester comedy club with multiple shows each month.
“It’s really exciting to have Westchester Magazine highlight my stand-up show as representative of the best of Westchester comedy and to help spread the word about the culture and community we’re building here in Westchester County and Larchmont-Mamaroneck, especially as Westchester native from Mamaroneck,” said producer and host Ben Asher. “Every month, for the past two years, we’ve gotten an incredible mix of neighborhood locals, Sound Shore residents and people coming from every part of Westchester, as well as Putnam, Rockland, Connecticut, Long Island, Manhattan, and even Brooklyn, packing each sold-out show with amazing energy. I’m thrilled being awarded “Best of Westchester Comedy Show” helps expose even more people to incredible stand-up comedy, and expanding the show to twice a month allows me to provide tickets to the scores of ticket seekers we’ve had to turn away each month.”
Comedy From Scratch, at The Idea Kitchen happens every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, and is located in downtown Larchmont, one block the Larchmont MetroNorth train station, at 1940 Palmer Ave., Larchmont NY. Ages 16+ are welcome to attend, but some material will definitely be considered for Adults (however, if a parent wants to bring a 12 year-old who loves stand-up comedy, that’s okay with us, as long as the parent is okay material similar to George Carlin and Sarah Silverman). Top professional comics and performers from TV and NYC’s major clubs performing long sets on an intimate stage, that other shows don’t give them the time to perform. Founded in January 2023, Awarded “Best of Westchester Comedy Show” by Westchester Magazine in 2024, and expanded to shows every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month May 2025 to meet the overwhelming audience demand, with tickets for every show always selling out. In addition to consistently curating a line-up for each week’s show that strives to reflect the racial, ethnic, gender, and sexual diversity of NYC and Westchester what makes this show unique is that it’s the only comedy show that always provides all of the performers it showcases with long set times (25-30+ minutes), allowing them to flex their comedy muscles on stage and really hit their stride, allowing audience to truly see the comedian’s essence, rather than just a snippet. Which is why audiences consider it the the best comedy value in Westchester. Unlike in most comedy clubs, Comedy From Scratch is BYOB and Food; it has no 2-Drink minimums. Customers only pay for amazing comedy and can bring their own food and drinks.
For each show, Ben books the wittiest, most boundary-pushing veteran and rising comedic talent. Comics on the show have been on SNL, HBO, Netflix, Comedy Central, Late Night TV and include Mark Normand, Jena Friedman, Sam Morril, Aparna Nancherla, Jacqueline Novak, Myq Kaplan, Jamie Lee, Matteo Lane, Mike Vecchione, Phoebe Robinson, Josh Gondelman, Alex Edelman, and Emmy Blotnick.
From TimeOut NY: For comedy connoisseurs tired of seeing their favorite comics squeeze their sets into five minutes, Ben Asher’s showcase provides full-length sets and a chill atmosphere for diverse acts to thrive in.
Comedy From Scratch, at The Idea Kitchen is the latest of Ben Asher’s hit stand-up shows that have been entertaining audiences from the East Village, to Brooklyn and the Bronx. From 2021-2023 Ben produced/hosted the Arthur Avenue Comedy Show, in the Bronx, which was twice included in the prestigious NY Comedy Festival (2022, 2023), as the only show representing the Bronx (out of over 200 shows in the whole Festival) In addition to being a TimeOut New York ‘Critics Pick’, TimeOut NY has named Ben’s shows as one of the “best comedy shows in NYC,” being celebrated as, “for true comedy connoisseurs,” and has frequently called it the “best cheap things to do,” of the week and one of the “most amazing things to do” of the month, while the New York Times has listed it as an editor’s choice multiple times.
