ArtsWestchester and the African American Men of Westchester Announce the Inaugural Larry Salley Photography Award for Local Westchester Photographers

Deadline to Apply for Larry Salley Photography Award is January 2

ArtsWestchester invites local photographers and Westchester organizations to nominate candidates for the inaugural Larry Salley Photography Award. Presented for the first time, this award is specifically designed to support a local Westchester-based photographer with a significant body of work of outstanding artistic merit.

ArtsWestchester is partnering with The African American Men of Westchester in order to celebrate the life and artistic achievements of Lawrence “Larry” C. Salley who was an active member of both organizations. Larry lived and worked in Westchester County (White Plains) where he assumed the leadership roles of Deputy Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Planning and Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Transportation. In his spare time, he was a gifted photographer. His photos were recently featured in an ArtsWestchester exhibition called “The Photographer’s Journey: A Tribute to Larry Salley”.

The award recipient will be furnished with a $1,000 cash prize to help advance their career and an opportunity to have a three-month artist residency in one of ArtsWestchester’s artist studios located in their building at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY. In addition, the award will be presented at ArtsWestchester’s annual Arts Award Luncheon scheduled for Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Applications are available and may be accessed electronically by visiting: http://artsw.org/lsalleyaward.

An independent panel comprised of ArtsWestchester’s Arts Committee, African American Men of Westchester, and the family of Larry Salley will review the applications and make award recommendations to ArtsWestchester’s Board of Trustees.
