The 50th Anniversary Ground Glass Photography Exhibition
The Ground Glass Photography Association proudly presents The 50th Anniversary Ground Glass Photography Exhibition, a milestone exhibit celebrating five decades of artistic collaboration and photographic excellence. The exhibit will be on view April 20 through May 16, 2026 at The Rye Arts Center, Rye, NY. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd from 6:30-8:00pm. The public is warmly invited to attend.
This year’s exhibit was juried by acclaimed photographer and Guggenheim Fellowship recipient Andrew Moore. Widely recognized for his long-term photographic series documenting the effects of time on natural and built landscapes, Moore is the author of seven books and producer of a feature film that received a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He currently teaches a graduate seminar at the School of Visual Arts and previously lectured in the Visual Arts Program at Princeton University.
Moore carefully reviewed over 160 submissions to curate a compelling selection of 38 images created by 31 Ground Glass members. Reflecting on the breadth of work submitted, he remarked, “The pool of submitted photographs presented an astonishing variety of subject matter and technical approaches.”
He noted the challenges facing the photography association’s 50 years were “revolutionary changes to the medium, caused by the synthesis of art and technology, dramatically transforming every aspect of the photographic process.” Moore congratulated The Ground Glass for fostering a creative community that has spanned decades, emphasizing that support for artists who share a common purpose is a vital function of the organization. That spirit is evident in the constructive dialogue and thoughtful critique members offer one another as they refine images for fine art exhibition prints.
Regarding the selected works, Moore observed “a strong presence of black and white landscapes and a wide range of locations from the exotic to nearby, including works collaged or made by hand.” He reflected on how the first Ground Glass exhibition might compare with one held fifty years from now, concluding, “There’s much to look forward to, based on the past fifty!”
The 50th Anniversary Ground Glass Photography Exhibition stands not only as a showcase of exceptional photographic artistry, but also as a celebration of enduring fellowship, mentorship, and creative evolution within the community.
The public is invited to attend this landmark exhibition honoring fifty years of photographic vision and collaboration.
