Enjoy a charming and inspirational harp and horn recital by the REIT DUO in support of the Westchester Oratorio Society— an afternoon of music, food and camaraderie at the South Salem Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 21, 2 p.m. The program will feature works by J.S. Bach, Grieg, Villa-Lobos, Byrd, Playford, Dowland, traditional tunes from Armenia and the British Isles, and a few original works by Alyssa Reit.
The Reits have been performing together for over 40 years. Pete was an original member of the Broadway pit orchestra for Phantom of the Opera. He was acting assistant horn at the Met Opera for five years, played principal horn for over 30 years in the Westchester Philharmonic and Scandia Symphony orchestras, toured with the Bob Belden Jazz Ensemble, and performed all over the U.S. as a member of the Eastern Brass Quintet. He is currently principal horn in the Greenwich Symphony and is on the faculty at Vassar College.
Alyssa is a composer, arranger, harpist, and storyteller. She has performed with John Cage, toured Europe with the legendary Martha Clarke, and traveled the U.S. playing with the world famous vocal group, Anonymous 4. Her compositions include numerous theatrical-musical settings of myths, classic stories, and fairy tales, as well as solo, chamber, and orchestral compositions that have been played all over the world. Her full-length musical, “A Cricket’s Tale,” is being premiered later this year by the Brewster Theater Company. She was on the faculty of Manhattan School of Music Pre-College for over 20 years, and currently teaches out of her home studio.
In addition to being consummate professional musicians Alyssa and Pete are members of the WOS chorus where they get together with others to share their love of singing.
An artist reception hosted by the chorus will follow the performance. South Salem. Salem Presbyterian Church is located at 111 Spring Street.
